Re: Antivirus

I resolved the issue.  The settings account had Facebook activated and once I deactivated the Facebook account. I have not had any pop-ups since.  Thank you for everyone for your help

but i'm a developer and i can easily create a malicious software that , for example , delete all data on memory card without user permission . This will be not considerate as virus but can ruin some people day (and create many thread with "Help,Virus!!" on this forum). Usually this application shall not be pass on testing phase on Blackberry App World , so for me is a trusted source of application.

can you explain what is the purpose of that paragraph in your message?

If I read carefully :

you are able to design a harmful software

but the harmful software will not be installed on a victim thanks to AppWorld's screening system.

is it so different from saying "there is currently no known virus on the PlayBook"?

That being said, even if I can "agree" to mix up a virus, a trojan, a worm and so on, you have to admit that currently, the only harmful software that can run on a PlayBook is one that is installed on the device on purpose by its owner. This kind of software cannot be called a virus. You can call it a SM software, or a self-torture app, or anything, but nothing harmful for someone who does not install on purpose a harmful software.

oh, and by the way, no need to be a developper to design in 10 minutes an app that deletes files on the PlayBook. Air makes it quite easy (but not virus).

Re: Antivirus

I know the general. concensus is that the BB PB does not require. Anti virus. Protection. However, I have personally experienced two occasions where it appeared that my PB had been hacked when using an unsecured Internet connection. Last year in Buenos Aires,I suddenly heard the keyboard on my PB clicking away on its own.  Upon inspection I saw that an email to one of my contacts was being composed in Cyrillic Russian. I quickly shut down the PB and restarted, performing a security wipe and setting a new password.  No further problems until yesterday after having used an unsecured Internet connection while on holiday in Mexico.  After recharging my PB, I noticed that the language had been reset to Cyrillic Russian and none of the screen icons would respond to my touch.  I.shutdown using the power button and again performed a security wipe and reset the password.  I have never been to Russia,  have no Russian correspondents, and do not peruse any Russian or other dodgy  websites. If my PB is not being hacked, then what is causing this disconcerting behavior. I. Have traveled all over the globe with a myriad of devices and laptops and have never experienced this behavior on any other than the PB. Can anyone offer an explanation?

Re: Antivirus

were you using the charger while surfing?

There has been a few people that had bad or floating earth grounds and the device will do weird things as it thinks the touch screen is use due to the changes in voltage.
