Blackberry PlayBook - internal USB port broken?

[ Edited ]

So the little metal thing in the charging port of my brother's PlayBook has broken.... Is there any way we could get that fixed? I don't think a warranty would work since it's the user's fault for damage.

We wanted to connect it to the TV so we could watch movies on Netflix... but then discovered that it wasn't effective, and we checked inside the port and the metal or plastic thing inside it was gone. Before, it was bent oddly, but we gently bent it back to its original state. Now, there's nothing inside the port. How can we get that fixed - if we can?

Any considerations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Blackberry PlayBook - internal USB port broken?

If USB is broken you can still use a magnetic charger and wifi sharing to transfer items aka backup photo, vids, music.

My sons friend broke his last week and now bought a magnetic charger from amazon for 14 dollars.

Having a loose usb port which I don't want any looser I recently bought one of these magnetic chargers and can thouroughly recommend them. Excellent. Buy one now and save your usb port (if it still works) for connecting to your pc.

Mine is broken too.  The PB USB port is squarish and the connector can be shoved in upside down.  The charger plug has the button symbol on both sides of the plug, so it's an easy mistake to make.

The USB socket on my new HTC Android smartphone is on the right.  There's just no doubt which way the plug goes.  It can't be inserted upside down.  The PB socket is squarish and it's possible, even likely that the plug gets inserted upside down and deforms or breaks off the little center board.

I wonder how much RIM wasted repairing this poor choice in parts.  Oh well, they're off putting QNX into toaters now, so no matter.
