When I attempt to take a picture or video I get the following messages respectively:
And there is just black screen.
The video camera will start if I use the video chat

You will have to call technical support. They will start the RMA Process. They will have you send it in so they can either fix it or send you a new one. Just experienced the same thing a week ago. There currently is no fix for it. Seems to be a software issue in the newest update. Below is the KB article from the Blackberry Knowledge base to support what I'm saying:
Call tech support @ 1-877-644-8410 / 8405 (CA) for support. They will get you straightened out.
