Has anyone been converting video (particularly dvd) for loading and viewing on your PlayBook? If so, what file formats, settings and software have you found most success with?

My videos were all shot with a Sony digital camcorder--surely one of the most popular cameras in use--yet they could not be synced with my PB ...not compatible.
Does this mean I have to convert all my videos? Or can other codecs be installed on my PB? If so, this could be a big problem with general users.

Sony uses a special codec that isnt compatable with many media players.
most likely you will need to convert them

If you have a powerful converter software, then don't need to worry about this problem

So far I've been using AVS with AnyDVD for ripping dvd's (I own them) and converting to avi's with the following settings:
- Codec: h.264
- Size: 1280x800
- Bitrate: was using 460kbps, was a bit grainy so now trying 640
- Frames: 30fps
- Sample rate: 44khz
- Bitrate: 192bps
- Channels: stereo
File size for a 43 to 44 minute video (tv episode) is around 300mb and takes over an hour to rip & convert. Hoping for something faster but still good quality. The avi's and mp4's are playing fine for me on the PB.

We've been using Format Factory successfully. Mostly just to re-encode AVI movies that have AC3 audio encoding into MP3 encoding, but the movies turned out good.

Expanded codec support is a must. MKV is now the common container format for Blu ray rips. I miss it badly on the Playbook
(no, I don't want to transcode all my movies).

I agree, at least support m2ts so my ps3 movies will work as well. I really don't feel like re-encoding something when I should be able to just change the underlying container (mkv).
