Am considering buying a Playbook... can you tell me which formats are used for eBook reading (PDF??)

also, which software is used to download books?  (Adobe?)

and... are you able to borrow library books using the Playbook?

Thank you in advance

Re: EBooks

You can buy the books directly from Kobo. It downloads them in a few seconds but I don't know what the format is, however you do not have to convert them. You can also download Apps that allow you to get books from libraries. I have not done this. I have only purchased them from Kobo.

There's an ebook reader app in App World for a small amount of money, like £1 or $1, that will read Kindle, EPUB, etc but they MUST be DRM free, which means any purchased Kindle books for example would need to be unlocked by an app on your laptop. You can decide if that is legal or not in your country. See link for full description of formats.

If it was me I would buy the Playbook as a very powerful outdoor business browser and emailer, and a Kindle for books.
