Just got a playbook - seems to keep crashing

I just got a Playbook on Monday.  It is a refurb.  I can be in a browser or App World and then the screen just resets.  I rarely can stay in anything more than 1 minute before the screen closes and it take me back to the home screen.  I don't appear to have any other apps open to suck memory.  Is there something I am doing wrong or is this a hardware issue?

Also, I keep trying to download an app or two to see if it shows up on the screen, but can't because of the crashing.  I'm doing this because I know the Facebook app is loaded (I can see it in the list), but there is not an icon for that app.  How do you get to apps that are loaded, but have no apparent icon?

So far, I am experiencing nothing but frustration.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: Just got a playbook - seems to keep crashing

sounds like your refurb has an issue, might be best to exchange it for another at the store.

or if you have some time and not much info on it you can do the folowwing to reinstall the OS.

First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.

This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.

Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.

You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.

QUICKLY choose the Update option.

This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

Re: Just got a playbook - seems to keep crashing

I did all of the steps, only on the re-initialization process, it can't update to the current OS and has me in a loop.  It tries to install, can't, asks to reboot, etc.  I don't seem to be able to skip that step.  My options are standby and continue.  Continue tries to install, standby just puts it in sleeper mode until I am ready to re-install.

Re: Just got a playbook - seems to keep crashing

ok, third try it installed.  Same thing though, I got to appworld and look at my apps that are loaded.  It lists FB as loaded, but the icon is nowhere to be seen.  I don't see a help app either.  Where is help?  I'm not burning to get FB working, it's just a convenient example.  App World crashed within 30 seconds too.  I then went into browser to try to get out on the web and see how long it would last, and it locked up before I could even get on the web.

Thanks a bunch, that's what I'm doing today.  What little I got to play with it, it looked pretty cool.

Re: Just got a playbook - seems to keep crashing

its a great tablet, bummer you didnt get one working out of the box.

I have 3 of them at home for over a year now and bought one for my mother in law.

My kids love em, we have game day on rainy weekend and watch vids in the car.

Soon grandma can vid chat wih them, read her books and surf the web with out lugging a huge laptop.
