New Playbook G4 coming out August 8th.

Well, that's what the Globe & Mail said today.

On the other hand, where are the apps guys?

Guardian.co.uk offers a Second Screen app for, and I quote, 'Desktop, Android and iPad'.

About time that, even if RIM is suffering, it keeps up with offerings for its competitors.

Here is what's on that page, relevant to the post.

Re: New Playbook G4 coming out August 8th.

Yes, PlayBook 4G

Perhaps you need to ask the Guadian UK, who builds apps for its own newspaper, why they don't have one. Shame they don't. Can you image RIM or even Apple trying to build 1,000 apps for each daily newspaper in the world? They don't, the individual businesses build their own apps.

Good luck!

Re: New Playbook G4 coming out August 8th.

Yes, it's 4G, but so what?

The point is that how many decent apps have there been that haven't arrived for the Playbook?
Too many.
It's for the RIM remainder of staff to help obvious major businesses along, by providing adequate enabling software.
RIM is not doing that.

NB. Snide comments from supposed 'gurus' in the Support pages do not help.

Probably, however, if things don't improve, nothing will shortly matter about what I or anyone else thinks.

Why don't you start making some apps then? Smiley Wink

Agreed.  Cmon now just open up the playbook to full android apps. Otherwise fail...

Re: New Playbook G4 coming out August 8th.

I disagree. If I wanted to run android apps, I wouldn't have sold the Android tablets I've purchased, I would have sold the PlayBook.
IMO, the combination of hardware and software on the PlayBook makes it a far more powerful device than any android tablet.
Does it need some updates and new features? Of course. But it doesn't need to run android to be a success. In fact, IMO running android apps will hurt the PlayBook in the long run, because lazy devs will just package their .apks into a .bar and submit it to App World, rather than making an app that actually takes advantage of the amazing PlayBook infrastructure.

On the contrary, RIM is doing just that... helping ANYone who wants to develops for the PlayBook and BB10, do so. In fact they are over-actively doing so now and for the past six months. The RIM developer assistance team has been in high gear.

Go ask any developer who's been to BBJAM or worked with RIM on this.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
