PlayBook 4G LTE 2.1 update not available

[ Edited ]

Hello;

I have the PlayBook 4G LTE, not currently connected with a Carrier. Instead, I'm using Wi-Fi or Bridge which seems to be fine for what I use it for at this time. When checking for updates, there are no new updates available. When I do a clean reload using DTS, it reloads 2.0 software. Do I need to be connected via a carrier to get the 2.1 update? What else can I try to get the 2.1 update?

Current OS Version: 2.0.1.668

2.1.0.1088 is the latest available. You do not need to be connected to your carrier for the update. Connected via WiFi or to your BlackBerry Desktop Software should be sufficient.

I don't know why you're not getting this latest update. You might try a restart of the device and check again.

If it doesn't appear, you might want to contact your Playbook support number.

Re: PlayBook 4G LTE 2.1 update not available

Thanks JSanders; that's what I thought and have been told many times. I do have some friends that work for support at RIM in Waterloo and they have not been able to provide me with an answer either. The device has been reloaded (clean reload) several times. After a wipe, the device downloads 352mb update (region specific) - but still leaves me at 2.0.1.668.

Are these devices locked to specific cariers? If so, how do you determine what carrier?

I am an ex-employee. The team I worked on received these devices for working on the 4G launch.

Re: PlayBook 4G LTE 2.1 update not available

hmmm... a pre-release device? How did you update to 2.0.1.668?

You said you did a clean load of the OS, did you use the debrick process to do so?

***********
You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
1. Do a backup of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7 installed. It can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
2. After the backup is finished, unplug the PlayBook and on the PlayBook press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
3. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
4. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
5. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
6. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc., and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

Re: PlayBook 4G LTE 2.1 update not available

No, it is not a pre-release device - it's production.

and your steps are what I've called a clean reload, so yes, I have done the de-brick process you described - actually, it's the ony way I reload any BlackBerry device Smiley Happy

Do you know CFP?

Re: PlayBook 4G LTE 2.1 update not available

No, I don't think I know a CFP.

I think I'd still call the Playbook support number.

Re: PlayBook 4G LTE 2.1 update not available

There is a user whom already tried CFP here: http://www.usoftvb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17305

But with no success. I am in the same boat. 4G tablet (straight from RIM) but not on a carrier so can't update past 2.0.1.668. I need the update for the mobile fusion add-on.

Still doesn't say what CFP is. Not that it matters as it didnt work.

RIM need to address their PIN/carrier list. Any 4g playbook not on contract needs to be taken off the controlled list. Or stop giving them away or selling unlocked ones.
