Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

My BB playbook is not powering up when placed in the charging cradle or when plugged into a computer.  I have tried hard restart and all kinds of  things - I am not even getting a red light.

is there any way I can get it restarted, rebooted, or something so that it can take a charge.  I know it has to be powered up to charge - but right now nothing is working.  Please help!

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

If you have the rapid charging cradle, please leave it to charge for 24-48 hours, and then try the power button and the power + Up volume keys press simultaneously to see if you can get the initial startup screen.

If you see the low battery image appear that's good.. back to charge on the rapid charger.

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

thanks - I think i have done that already with no result.  I will try it again for an unbroken 48 hours and see what happens.

Just looking for some hope here, but is there a chance that my playbook is just finished ....:

Nope! It's just deeply and severely drained, and you'll notice references to that in the KB articles I linked for you.

This happened on one of my PlayBooks recently, and it too some patience and work...if it's not TOO deeply drained, you will begin to see some life eventually via the no battery icon, or a low orange glowing pulsating LED at the top of the device.

If it is VERY deeply drained, you will need to eventually use the PlayBook debricking method to bring it back to life. You will lose all media, pictures, etc., on the device however, if you have not made a previous backup.

Try this, while connected to your charger. Press and hold the Power key, up and down volume (-/+) all three buttons simultaneously, for about 10-12 seconds. You should the red LED blink and that should allow a reset of the PlayBook and to power up.

After charging 24+ hours:

1- Press the powerbutton for about 20 seconds
2- Charge PB for 2 minutes (use stopwatch)
3- Disconnect powercable for 8 seconds

You have to repeat step 2 and 3 total of 10 times. Then reboot by pressing power and + key for 22 seconds.

Other users have reported this reset their device and got it working.

You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
1. (skip this if the devce is dead due to no battery charge) Do a backup of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7 installed. It can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
2. (skip this if the devce is dead due to no battery charge) Unplug the PlayBook and on the PlayBook press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
3. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
4. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
5. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
6. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc., and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

Thanks for the hope - I'll walk through the  given instructions and keep you posted on the results.  Hopefully a good result to pass on to others.

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

Any thoughts on if your PlayBook battery level is fine, but it won't take a charge. I have 2 of the Travel Playbook chargers and starting yesterday, neither will charge it. The charger will charge a phone in 20 mins, but nothing happens with the PlayBook.

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

Hi ! Same problem is being faced by me. I got in touch with Redington in India who take care of servicing for BB products in India. They took my playbook and later informed me that it will returned after 15 days.

I just bought it few months back. Still more that 6 months of warranty left.

Playbook not powering up, no charging, I tried to charge it for several hours there is only 0% battery showing.

Can I get replacement for it ?

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

OK I have tried all three methods of getting my PB to start charging and none have been sucessful:

1.  pressing start, + and - for 10-12 seconds ... no red light

2. going through the drill 10x of charging for 2 mins, unplugging charger for 8 seconds and charging again for 2 mins - followed by reboot ... no red light, no reaction  (BTW the charger is working as it is a new unit, just purchased and it was working for charging last week)

3.  debrick - when I plug the playbook into the computer while the Desktop program is running on the computer, there is no reaction, no drop down menu with "update" .... nothing

Suggestions?

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

If charging the Tablet for 4 - 6 hours still results in no LED's, attempt to force power on the Tablet by pressing and holding only the Power Button for 20 seconds only.
Make sure the charger is connected during this procedure and leave it connected overnight. You can Google BLACKBERRY KNOWLEDGE BASE KB27705 also.

Re: Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

So the rapid charger port isn't working for me. But the 3 pronged magnetic port is. So I'm using my stand. Argh!
