Playbook won't turn on - no lights

My playbook will not turn on now, it's screen doesn't come on and no light are flashing. The other day this happened so I played with the buttons and it eventually came on, so I don't understand why it won't come on now. Here's what I've tried:
- pressing combinations of buttons while it's plugged in (the power button for 10+ seconds, the power and + and - buttons for 10+ seconds, etc.)
- changing the plug (but I don't think it's dead, last time this happened it had a full battery)
- reading for help on the internet and being unsuccessful
- I haven't tried updating it on the desktop but I'd rather save that as a final option since I hear it wipes your playbook.
- I've waited
- I would really rather not have to return it since it was a gift so that's kinda hard...

Anyways, any help would be appreciated Smiley Happy

UPDATE! So we left it plugged in over night then turned it on and EVERYTHING is gone! All the apps except blackberry bridge are gone, and bridge doesn't work anyways. It won't let me turn on wifi either. Somehow the whole thing got wiped, even the things that came on it. Plus the battery isn't fully charged so it was probably dead yesterday, but I don't know how that's possible because I never turned it off and It was charging for forever and I couldn't use it yesterday because it wouldn't turn on. I'm trying to decide whether I should send it back and exchange it or plug it into my computer to see if I can fix it, I guess I'll plug it into the computer, nothing to lose anyways.

try pressing the power button and both vol keys for 20 seconds to reboot it. i have seen the icons come back after

So I tried to reboot it but it would only get to the point where there's a black screen that says "blackberry playbook" and the little background lights never came. So I turned it off again and it wouldn't turn on. So I plugged it in again and then the next day I tried turning it on again but it's still stuck at the blackscreen part. Anyone know what to do? I really don't want to return it...

First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.

This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.

Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.

You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.

QUICKLY choose the Update option.

This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

I tried to connect it to my computer the other day but couldn't get it turned on so that my computer would find it... I guess I can try moving it while it's in this semi-on mode.

I have the same problem. The red led will only be turned on during half minute after plug in then it will be back to off.   when connected to the laptop it is recognized as a device but  it stop be seen after few seconds at the same time the led is going off.

I have the same problem, sadly it happend the first day I bought it. When I first got it, it put me through the setting up steps, and when that was compeleted it said it had to do an update. Once the update was done, it turned off and wouldn't turn back on ever since. I've tried different charging techniques, pressing numerous buttons at once, holding down the power button, hooking it up to my computer and nothing has seemed to work. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think I'm just going to return it.
