Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't this solve the problem?

I use this program in conjunction with any number of other apps and my Playbook never goes to stand-by. Just a suggestion. Smiley Happy

Yes it would but then we would not have to complain about it.

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

Actually the Stay On app, as with the Keep Awake feature that I added to Battery Guru, is of limited functionality. Unfortunately the limitations are forced on us by the operating system (and to some extent Flash) for now.

You need to have some portion of the window of the "keep awake" app actually visible for it to have an effect. You also need to keep that app active, which probably means running in Showcase mode.

If you merely run the app, then switch to another one which becomes fullscreen, the keep awake feature cannot work. This makes it extremely limited in use, though it is helpful if you can live with those limitations.

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

I've tried it and it doesn't work.  I've even found that my PlayBook goes to black with the program on as main.

No luck for me.

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

You mean even putting Stay On into fullscreen mode doesn't keep your tablet on?

If you have Battery Guru, you could try the same thing with the Keep Awake feature. I've had only one report that it didn't work, but after helping the user via email he confirmed that it really does work, with those limitations. (If you don't have Battery Guru, I certainly don't suggest spending $1.99 just for a limited Keep Awake feature.)

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

I was very pleased to recieve my new tablet in the mail a couple of days ago.  It is very nice looking, smooth operation and has great web browser.  I was so excited to have the new tablet I bought a new pair of speaker to attach to it and a nice Cyber Acoustics stand for the tablet to sit in.

I came home tonight, I had some paperwork from the office to do and some house cleaning, I set up my tablet and hooked it up to the speakers and placed it in the stand.  I opened the web browser and went to my favourite radio station.  Was I ever disappointed to find out I have to walk up to the tablet and every five minutes to turn in back on.  RIM sent me a charging cable with my new playbook and it also comes along with a reputation for having a prolonged battery life.  Why can I not set up the power usage on the playbook to stay on?? The screen turns off just like it should, but why does the whole unit have to shut down if I don't touch it before 5minutes is up.  RIM please fix this issue with an update.  The browser and multitasking is very good but only when the tablet is on!

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

Nobody understands why RIM seems to have ignored for so long that this is one of the first annoyances almost every new PlayBook user notices. In any case, one of the solutions mentioned earlier in this thread would work around the issue for you. Just enable the Keep Awake feature in one of those apps, minimize it but keep the window showing, and ensure ShowCase mode is on in the settings and you're web radio station should play all night.

Battery Guru is also on sale for the holidays, in case you want to try it out. ;-)

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

Thank you kindly for your response and assistance, I did see the apps suggested and I will give them a try.

RIM still needs to address this as people should not need an app to use thier playbook for more than 5 minutes.

What is the best way to voice concerns to RIM?

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

For things like this, discussion in this forum. Believe me, this is not a request that's unfamiliar to them, and I've even talked to RIM employees who find it incomprehensible that they have not fixed it, and who can think of no reason they would not at least make a simple statement about either the reasons for leaving things this way, or their plans for fixing it.

One can only hope they simply haven't felt it was a priority to fix it before 2.0 and that we'll see some sanity arrive in February.

Re: Stand by after 5 minutes

I do have showcase mode on and demo off. The url is http://player.640toronto.com/.  I also tried another streaming radio station.. The same thing, the unit turned off after 5 minutes.
