Tablet internet security - do we need this?

Has anyone heard of internet security companies (i.e. norton, kaspersky) offering tablet security programs?  Should we be concerned?  According to the site, tablet users are subjected to internet attacks just like a regular pc.

Does BB have any built in feature that prevents this?

Thanks all

Re: Tablet internet security - do we need this?

answers to your three questions:
no / no / yes

remember most of the internet threats are focused on mass. That is the reason why there are very few viruses on MacOS, and that is the reason why viruses and other malware will appear on iPads and Android tablets much sooner than on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

That being said, you can read this article:

Are you sure you want norton on your tablet. I sure don't.

Re: Tablet internet security - do we need this?

that software from Norton is only available on Android (where security is lacking), please review the system requirements here:
http://us.norton.com/mobile-security/

I am not sure it works on Android tablets though.

Re: Tablet internet security - do we need this?

norton is a resource hog, even a striped down version for a tablet would slow everything down. I have removed it from every pc I have found it on the owners are always overjoyed by how much faster there comps are. Shaw secure is even worse.
Most virus's wouldn't know what to do on a tablet because the coding is foreign.

Re: Tablet internet security - do we need this?

I would just like to add that any internet security tool WILL slow down any system. This is true for any antivirus and any firewall. It is part of the question "how much do I care about security".
And the answer for the PlayBook is currently "security is already maxed out".

About that Norton tool for Android smartphones, I have no knowledge on what it really does for security.
