Re: Update 2.1.0.1314 is released

I'm still blind out here in Vancouver, too, wrt 2.1.0.1314 on my LTE devices.

The other PB's here updated just fine, thank you.

I wonder if there's a way to move a copy of 'regular' 2.1.0.1314 to the LTE device somehow?

Probably not without erasing the setup on my LTE machine...

Is there a way for @BlackBerry to chase Rogers for us?

Also - is this unique to Rogers or do Telus and Bell LTE PB owners also suffer the lag in releases?

Re: Update 2.1.0.1314 is released

Playbook browser since 1314 update is still 'underperforming' very badly - checkerboarding, slow, jerky.

Anyone have any answers, apart from the ones already suggested? I do not want to buy a browser and tapping the checkerboard does not work. I also don't see why I should turn off Java/flash or anything else - that is the point of a browser that works.

My friends with iPads are laughing at me...

malcolm75, first off, I'd

  • clear the browser cache on the PlayBook.
  • Open the browser > Swipe down from the top bezel > Settings > left column touch Privacy & Security > Scroll down to the bottom and Clear History and Clear Cache, or Clear All.
  • Then, I would BACK out of that, and touch the upper right battery icon > Restart.

Now, after the restart, see how the browser performs. If it continues, the last option is to reload the PB software.

Post back if you need assistance with that.

Re: Update 2.1.0.1314 is released

Hi JSanders,

Thanks for the suggestion.

It was not noticeably better and then it just quit. All by itself. Which it almost never does.

I am nervous about reinstalling software - how does it go?

Malcolm

Re: Update 2.1.0.1314 is released

First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.

This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.

Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.

You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.

QUICKLY choose the Update option.

This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

Reloading the OS is not a big deal, can be time-consuming so start it off in the morning or when you have several hours set aside (the larger the PlayBook (16, 32, 64gb) the longer it can take, according to how much memory you have used on the device, because of the lengthy backup and restore of your data.

***********
You need to follow these instructions:
1. Do a backup of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7 installed. It can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
2. After the backup is finished, unplug the PlayBook and on the PlayBook press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
3. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
4. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
5. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
6. Once this is finished your PlayBook will restart with the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc.,) and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you previously downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

Please post back if you have further questions.

Re: Update 2.1.0.1314 is released

Hi,

I got no 'Error' screen - I got the option of  Cancel  or   Repair... or   Retry

I clicked Repair... and the Playbook restarted.

Still checkerboarding.

Then you haven't reloaded the OS.

How long did all this take?

Re: Update 2.1.0.1314 is released

Could you try this again?

Remember, BACKUP first. Before doing any of this.
