Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

Go online to your local library.

You view their catalog of digital Kindle books and check out from there.

You then tell it to deliver the digital book to our Cloud Reader service.

Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

Our library doesn't support kindle - more kobo - they go through Overdrive Media Console.  I've downloaded that on the playbook, but it appears that is just for audio books not ebooks.

Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

Adobe Digital Editions doesn't support the PlayBook so you can't copy eBooks that you borrowed from your library in Canada. Even if you rip the DRM off them you still need to find a way to get them onto the device since the native Kobo app won't recognize anything except purchased content from what I understand. I guess a 3rd party reader app would work.

In any case I ended up buying a Kobo Touch at Christmas and find it much better for reading since I find reading on backlit screens kills my eyes. Plus it weighs next to nothing and works perfectly with books I borrow from my local library so I can't complain. YMMV.

Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

That all changed today with the new OS upgrade.

After I upgraded the OS this morning, I installed the overdrive app for the new OS:

http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/80929/?lang=EN

I entered my adobe digital editions password, my library information, and now can read ebooks and audio books on my playbook.

Yesterday it was a much more difficult thing.

Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

I'm still trying! The upgraded Overdrive Media Edition SAYS it works for ebooks and I downloaded it this morning from BB Appworld. Overdrive app even says it works. But I'm still having trouble. Really need someone who has managed to get this to work to jump in and help everyone here!!

Hmm, did not know that, will have to give it a try and see if it works.

Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

Go back in the posts and you will see how I use Canadian Library books on my PB.   I  download the book, double click on the .ascm file, which opens ADE.   Then use the DRM removal.  Then plug the PB into my PC and just copy the book onto the PB  books folder.

Overdrive is for 'talking' books. You need Adobe Digital Editions. Check back for my post on how I read Canadian Library books.

Re: Using Playbook for ereader - library books

I've downloaded eBooks from Mississauga Library using Overdrive. You have to "borrow"using the Overdrive app. Open overdrive and add a Library to Overdrive via "Get Books" tab (find this by swiping down from top of screen))  and then connect to the library in the app. Follow the library's process (seems the same as in a browser) and once a book is downloaded it appears in Overdrive  library and can be read.  No other reader needed.

Hope this helps
