iTunes sync - file type compatibility?

Am (finally) setting up my PB with the BB Desktop Manager software and am wondering if anyone knows whether the PB-iTunes sync will, upon sync/export, convert Apple Lossless files into music files that are both smaller and readable by the Playbook?

According to the specs, m4a is supported on PlayBook if the codec is AAC, MP#, PCM but  Apple Lossless is a disctinct codec (ALAC/ALE) and so I'm not expecting it to play those files. But.. when I sync from iTunes to the iPhone, it compresses audio files to 128 AAC which is great for the limited GB on the device.

So I'm wondering how the sync from iTunes library to PB works? Does it compress, skip, or sync (but then not play) ALAC files if they are in the playlist?

Thanks as always for info & insights.
