MIne will not start at all and not charge either. I see no life on it whatsoever, no blinking, no light however short.
I brought it back to Best Buy and they connected it to the 'charging pod' but nothing happeded at all. The guy at Best Buy was told that the charger needs to be connected directly into wall jack so we tried that but it didn't help.
I am exchanging mine and hope a new one works better. I still have the 'bad one' so if you have more ideas, let us know. I can't do the restart either.

When I went to best buy to look for the rapid charger, the Playbook on display out in the front of the store was having the same problem as mine. With the red flashing LED. People were picking it up and wondering why it wasn't working. Then they just gave up and moved on...
I just hope it didn't damage my battery. Still feeling down about the videos, pictures, document I lost.
(Does desktop manager back up documents? or only setting, music, videos, pictures?)

DTM should be able to take a backup and create an IPD file image. However I doubt it will do this if running the de-brick as it has lost connectivity to the device profile.
Just to recap when you used the supplied wall plug you see a solid RED LED for a few seconds that disappears then nothing?
This was fixed using the charger POD?
For the DTM, Not sure where documents would fall under. You can back up Apllication data, Media and Settings. Don't want to back up many gigs of data every day through my usb
When I used the supplied PB charger to charge overnight, I saw a red flashing LED. It would blink twice every once in a while.
When I connected it to the charging pod, it displayed the same behaviour and the battery would still not charge.
It seemed to power the unit, but the battery didn't charge. The unit would not turn on, even after hard reset.
To "resolve" it, i connected it to the computer by USB. DTM recognized the device but could not connect normally. I clicked the update option and it performed the update, which wiped everything from my playbook. But now it works at least... and the battery is charged.
