"you must accept the blackberry messenger license agreement on your smartphone to use bbm on your playbook"

[ Edited ]

I am writing on behalf of a friend who is extremely frustrated with BB Bridge appearing as if it's connected to playbook. Whenever user tries to open BBM on PlayBook, the following message appears: "you must accept the blackberry messenger license agreement on your smartphone to use bbm on your playbook".

The following tests have been performed:

  • rebooted both BlackBerry and PlayBook
  • uninstalled BB bridge and reinstalled and then re-paired devices

Bridge Browser works fine. User can open messages on BBM on BlackBerry and on Playbook the notifier disapears, indicating message has been read.

What shall this person do?

Re: "you must accept the blackberry messenger license agreement on your smartphone to use bbm on your playbook"

First of all, make sure that the version of BBM and BlackBerry Bridge is up to date on the handset.

If so I'd consider deleting the bluetooth connection to the phone and reconnecting BlackBerry Bridge.

If that doesn't work, I'd try reinstalling BlackBerry Bridge, and then BBM on my handset.

Hope something here helps.

I will reconfirm with my friend to see if he's actually done this. He says he has but I will double check.

What should he do next, if these suggestions do not work?

I'd backup the PlayBook and wipe it. Check if it works or not and then restore the backup and check again.

Just to confirm I should tell him to

  1. Connect to Desktop manager and backup everything to his computer.
  2. Confirm if everything works
  3. Restore the backup and then check again

1.5 - restore the PlayBook to factory using the 'debrick' process and reconnect BlackBerry Bridge.

The rest is fine Smiley Happy

Re: "you must accept the blackberry messenger license agreement on your smartphone to use bbm on your playbook"

First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.

This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.

Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.

You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.

QUICKLY choose the Update option.

This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

know he's going to ask. What is the "debrick process"? Where can he find this information? It's the first time I've heard of it

Is this the "rebrick" process? If it is, ignore my last comment.

I will get him to try this. If this doesn't work, I will get back to you later tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully, this works.
