The client URL is HTTP, the server is HTTPS. The credentials email bolds the protocol to help it stand out a bit.
Take a look at my SimplePushServer sample app, it uses HTTPS post with basic authentication for the credentials:
It includes templates for both pushing as well as requesting a list of subscribed users.

With help of your Cascades samples I managed to send and recieve a push, so I'll close the thread as solved. It's uip to me to replace outdated Tomcat and unreliable Java High and Low samples and probably run a node.js server side, now that I have raw requests that need to be done.
