Data compression

Hi

can you tell me if data compression on the Q10 and Z10 are similar to data compression on older Blackberry smartphones as the bold for example?

many thanks

Re: Data compression

No. The old devices used BIS. The new devices do not. BIS is what compressed the data. The downside is that the device uses more data. The up side is you don't need a special data plan to use it.

Re: Data compression

thanks John , I appreciate. If I understand a Q10 with a data plan as I actually have (BIS) , data compression will be the same , correct?

regards

Re: Data compression

No, the Q10 does not connect to BIS even if you have a BIS plan on your account. You will not get data compression on the Q10.

I should add that BIS compression was something like 3 to 6 times.  Pure text (ie emails) would give you the best compression.

Re: Data compression

Thanks

You mean , if the emails I send and receive include just text , the loss of compression will not really impact my bill

Re: Data compression

Correct. However, you can limit what part of the email actually shows on your phone. For example, if you're worried about data usage, choose to not show pictures in your  emails (until you ask to see them, of course). This is accomplished by going to your  Hub and pressing the three dots in the lower right and selecting Settings>Display and Actions and setting Download Images Automatically to OFF.

I hope that helps you.  Smiley Happy
