you might have suggested contacts on you mail account, I had to delete all the entries in mine as there were tons of odd ones

It might be that in one email, one of the senders gave you that alias. Please check if your contact (saved in Contacts) has the correct address and retry. LE: have you ever checked if the message sent to the "suggested " you arrives in your e-mail?
LLE: choose the suggested address and check other addresses in cc or bcc (suggested).

"When I type in "Andy..." what comes up below is "email@example.com." that's a suggested email. I assume that somebody gave you that alias in his email. Wehn you are writing to "firstname.lastname@example.org" you are receiving the email?

Have you tried to type your address just to see if it's suggesting correctly next time?
Sorry for creating false expectations, I think we have a YTBBR situation (you think is BlackBerry responding), in fact, this is the most advanced testing/debugging system: let users interact with each other until the problem is solved (or they die trying). I have tried to replicate your error and that was my result. For me, the only awkward addresses are generated by strange alias names gave by e-mail senders.
