Reporting back - I registered, but ran into other problems with sync being greyed out and inaccessible, and then having device communication problems. After EXCELLENT guidance from Blackberry support (1-877-255-2377), I resolved my problems, which turned out to be interference with my Trendmicro virus software. Turned off the virus software temporarily, uninstalled the Q10/ disconnected, then re-connected and re-installed successfully and everything worked. Thank you to Blackberry support!

centsible, thanks for the follow up, and just to note, I originally had the same issue with Link and Avast antirus running on my PC.
