Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

Finally, I bought a HTC one with 32 Gb yesterday & voila it synced with in a few minutes. I will forget BBM until it is released for android in Sept & until then it is whatsapp & viber. Thank you BlackBerry for letting me go after more than 10 years but I do not appreciate the torture that I had to bear for over a month.

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

I'm still suffereing with poor battery life, and none of the strategies suggested have helped. I'm in the middle of my afternoon recharge now with a brand-new phone. I hate to think what my battery life might be like after I've used the Q10 a while. I like a lot of things about the phone, but this battery life/signal strength issue threatens to make it unusable. Does anyone have any other ideas to suggest, or should I start trying to trade off my month-old phone for something that will work? Can anyone from Blackberry say if they're working on a fix for this problem?

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

I've had the overheating problem 2 times now after 2 months of use. I've followed all the 'fixes' since the first time and have found nothing that would link the two episodes to one kind of use that could stimulate the problem.  Happened again today and it's now plugged in and cool but anxious that this might be something requiring a fix from BBerry. Hope someone is monitoring this forum who is talking to the big boys who run the show! PS:  Today when it overheated, I left the battery out while at a meeting and when I returned to it, it was just as hot WITHOUT the battery installed as was the battery!  I stuck the bat in my air vent in the car till it cooled. Geeze....

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

I have the same problem with my Q10 thats why I stumbled upon this post. I don't think that it is related to the radio connectivity though. I had wifi, bluetooth, nfc switched of and very good gsm signal, but still had few incidents match

ing the description of OP.

I'm pretty sure that some software bug hogs the CPU, which explains the overheating and battery drain.

I'm searching for an app that provides information about CPU usage, and which app uses the most CPU. Something like the Linux top. Can you recommend me such an app?

Thanks

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

I have no idea about aps and don't use unless from a trusted source. If you find out anything, I'd love to know. Recently my Q10 is doing a soft boot all by itself w/no prompting. I have reported to verizon. It happens with no provocation. Battery hasn't heated up too many times. Just once this month so far. Would still like to figure it out:-)

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

After the latest update of the OS, the devs added the Settings > App Manager > Device Monitor, which is pretty cool I must say. Since the update, I did not had the "overheating battery draining" problem (Perhaps they tracked the problem and fixed it in this update?). If the problem occurs again (hope not),  at least now with the Device Monitor I can see if there is an app that is causing the problem or not, and provide some informative feedback.

Cheers

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

Phone was replaced and all is well. The charger for curve messed up battery. OS10 must have its own charger. They insisted on new phone along with replacement charger which was lost. Didn't know charger was different. New one neat cuz it has tiny lite at end that plugs into phone. Still lovin my Q10:-)

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

Hi Funkwrite,

I have been using a blackberry Q10 for a couple of months and can give you a couple advices

- First if you have a lot of problems I recomend to you to reinstall the Firmware of the phone for this you can use the "Blackberry Link" aplication. If you do a backup of your information only copy the most necesary : Contacts, passwords, ( there is no problem with media: photos, music etc).

- Try not to fill complete the internal memory of the phone let free 2Gb at least

- Some apliactions like the sync of the mail can consume a lot of battery , the solution for this is fix the sync frequency for each account. I have my principal account on push and the others less important to every 2 hours

- Turn off the things you don't use like : GPS, Bluetooth, Blend, NFC, wifi spot

- Configure the wireless network data to : 2g (edge) if you don't mind to have a slow internet connection or 3G. LTE and HSPA+ consume a lote of battery and in some buldings and other strong structures the signal is very weak

- Some Android aplications consume a lot of proccesor and ram memory try uninstall some you dont use.

- Some aplications like Twitter , Whatsapp, Calendar and others have the option to configure "Dark Theme". this is for consume let battery because the screen on the Q10 is an AMOLED ( this consume less battery with the color Black)

- And for the final. Try to reduce the brightnessof the screen this always helps for the battery in almost every phone

Please let me Know if this works for you. good luck

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

I am having the same problem, I thought it was the battery so I replaced the battery, but still it would only last 2 hours.

Now I have bought a new phone Q10 and done the device swap and again the battery is overheating.

I have limited all the apps permissions so that they are not running in the background, I am in a good area for my network coverage, not using WIFI or anything else. I have the latest software update. I have deleted any apps that I am not using.

I thought buying a new phone would help, but it hasn't. Please help if anyone has figured out the cause of this.

Re: Overheating Blackberry Q10

It really looks like software issue, it happend to me sometimes and i don't understand how they appear, just happens and you can warm food on it, but after angry battery pulling out and put back standarty it's kind of ok. Sometimes tho it's still more warm than usual after that, but become normal after some time. Once tho i met with really strange situation when with turned on Wi-Fi it starts to overheat and even when i turned off everything and deleted every app which use internet it won't help, only factory reset helps. It really looks like it's synchronized, but there was nothing to sync. Probably factory reset is best option for get rid of this problem, but it's bad option at total.
