If this brightness setting is truly built in, and a toggle can not be given in a future OS update for the auto-dimming, I will be returning my Q10 for a full refund tomorrow. You have violated my trust as a longtime BlackBerry customer. How could you put a phone on the market with a maximum brightness at 22% of the maximum brightness of an iPhone 5? What were you thinking?
Your product designers are frauds and your engineering team is a joke. We are the consumers, and we want control over whether or not we can actually read the text on our screens. The Nokia Lumia 928 has a toggle for auto-dimming brightness, and you're competing with Windows Phone 8, right?
22% of the lumens outputting from an iPhone 5. http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/handys/2013/bla
You guys really have a death wish, don't you?

Guessing someone will remark that I'm bashing the Q10... So be it.
I must agree that screen brightness is an issue for me, too.
Just learned this while walking to Amtrak station:
Wondering why my calendar 45 minute pre-appt notice didn't trigger, I pulled out the device and couldn't see a darned thing outside.

I concur with @paxtonbt.
The brightness on my Q10 - at maximum setting - is noticably dim.
I'm hoping that I have a lemon, otherwise I'll have to return it.

i TOTALLY AGREE:
I have the BB Q10, the BB Z10 and the BB Bold 9900. I love all three but one complaint on the Q10 is that I cannot make the "Brightness" of the screen as bright as on the Z10 or Bold 9900. Is that done deliberately, or do you think mine may be defective? I've had BB since they were first introduced, so I do know I have my settings correct. Thank you for any help you may shed on this concern.

I think - frightningly - that your Q10 is probably built to spec.
Take it into a store and compare it to units on display? When I did, they were equally dim.
The said I was still able to return the unit (buyer's remorse), at least.

I agree. The screen brightness on the q10 is WAY TOO DIM. Please give us the following:
Turn off auto brightness
Turn the brightness level up beyond what is currently allowed
I know this is software related. I sideloaded a kindle app, and went into the app, and I was able to crank the brightness way up. When I exited out of the kindle app, it stayed bright for about 5 seconds, and then went back to the normal dim screen.
Blackberry, please listen!!!
