Re: Screen brightness?

Ha, being in the minority or majority doesn't make things better, but thanks for the feedback Smiley Happy

Obviously preferences for how a device should look/act/behave/last are personal, and I respect your opinion.

Re: Screen brightness?

I agree.  I would rather sacrifice some battery life than compromise screen clarity.  The screen affects EVERYTHING on your device - especially pics (I have the iPad BECAUSE of the screen display).  I disagree with one commentator who suggested that BB "listened to the masses".  I doubt that MOST people would want their display sacrificed for battery life.  I don't see a significant save in battery life with this feature anyway.  I really love my BB - but I'm not sure I can deal with the display affecting my calendar, SMS TEXT messaging, email, maps, browsing - I may have to revert BACK to my Bold 9900.

Re: Screen brightness?

I don't wish to belabor the point but BlackBerry has indeed done surveys as have many other interests (tech sites, polling sites, etc.) and in the vast majority of the cases, people list battery life as a major consideration. I, myself, have returned a (non-Blackberry) phone and have stopped using a phone (the Bold 9900) due to poor battery life. I'm not saying it tops the list but you'll notice that almost every update from BlackBerry improves on battery life while none address screen brightness.

Anyway, it is what it is. Cheers. Smiley Happy

Re: Screen brightness?

Well, it seems perhaps you are belaboring the issue nonethless.  I believe the issue has never been addressed in the past is because it was NEVER an issue in the past.  If you've been reading these most recent "complaints", it seems to have become an issue.  I suspect it will perhaps become MORE of an issue when the Q10 continues to sell and BUYER'S become aware of the dimness of the display.  Word of mouth will preceed future sales - it's a shame BB did not advertise this screen change.  I believe it is a major issue and BB SHOULD HAVE advertised that fact.  They should have allowed the Buyer to make the choice.  It is a great piece of technology, too bad BB short-changed their customers by NOT disclosing this MAJOR change.

Re: Screen brightness?

By the way, I have been an avid fan of the BB products,  As earlier stated, I currently have three BBs - the Bold 9900, the Z10 and most recently the Q10.  I have not had the honor of receiving MY BBs free of charge - I purchased mine.  I love my Bold 9900 and couldn't wait for the Q10 to come out so I bought the Z10 - so I'd be ready when the Q10 arrived.  I loved the Q10, but the screen is a real disappointment - and since BB did NOT advertise this change - I feel somewhat cheated!!

I agree, I can't see the screen at all outside, I have a playbook, and this is my first smartphone

Re: Screen brightness?

Pretty sure we all feel cheated that BlackBerry released a phone far inferior to the Bold 9930 in critical aspects and that they haven't done a single thing over the course of the last year to respond to these serious complaints.

Don't get me started on the double-typing issue.

I disgree... the OS10.2.1 update includes almost all, not all, but most of all the input and feature requests submitted to BlackBerry over the past year.

Basically, with 10.2.1 installed, it is a completely different device than April of 2013 when the Q10 was released.

Re: Screen brightness?

The screen brightness issue has nothing to do with AMOLED it has everything to do with software. If you install a 3rd party brightness application from either world or android you can set the brightness to the real 100% which is usable. But since there isn't a headless app the brightness just resets itself. Frankly, this combined with my worries of the keyboard flaking out is enough for me to return the phone, I'm honestly just too worried about having problems down the road with this phone. I'm looking forward to the q20/30.
