I've read a number of older posts on problems with the try & buy not working well for people. Do these problems still exist? Anyone using it now? Are there any pitfalls to look out for?

I haven't any stats, but based on support calls I'd say less than 5% of my Buy customers are given the Trial app. We have a link to our site to download the app in those cases.
How many Trial customers receive the Buy app I'm not sure. But I haven't noticed any reduction in revenue since I switched, and sales definitely improved. So warts and all it's an improvement over straight Buy.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to decide whether to use Try & Buy or to just distro a trial and then implement the in-app purchasing for an upgrade. Having to check for past purchases (in the event the user wipes a device or gets a new one) is annoying however.
