NFC - How to detect disconnect?

Just getting started with NFC development.

I've been through the examples and am able to do basic reading of NDEF tags.

The one thing I am not seeing is how to detect when the NFC tag has gone away.

Is there a callback or other trigger?

Or will I just have to try to do an operation (read, write, etc) and then catch the execption?

Thanks,

Richard
