 I have not submitted any app yet but will submit one soon. Since the trial & buy does not work on BlackBerry app, I plan to do in the following way.


 1. Only one paid version is provided on BlackBerryAppWorld

 2. In the description, I will provide a OTA link to a trial version which is hosted on my own web server.

 3. In the trial version, I will provide a link to the paid vresion on BlackBerry App World.

 4. After the trial period expires, the trial version will be downgraded to a lite version which also has the link to the paid version on BlackBerry App World.


 It is inconvenient for the end user and developers, but it may work. I assume we can put the link in the description.


 Please let me know your idea about the con and pro of this work around.


 I feel BlackBerry App World store should let us know the implementation of the version management, so that at least we can get some work around for this issue.

I would like to offer the full version for number of days for trial. Have been looking for a way to do this on App World, but end up doing it on my own site.

After all the problems, I never again tried a dual-release method (static license, with 1 full release and 1 trial release), because it was always serving the one with the higher version # to everyone and ignoring the "is trial" flag.


Have been successfully offering non-feature-limited free trials using dynamic keying (in this case there's only 1 release for both trial and full), and it "works" except that the store too-often does not generate a key for the user when they move up to a purchase.  All day long I get support requests for keys, tell them to click on the app in their list of purchases where the key is supposed to be, and it is not there.  My keygen is working, but AW is apparently not always using it -- in fact, I have to generate keys manually for most purchases.


So, I just give up!  Forget "Try & Buy", and just post trials as separate apps, or else forget free trials.  Apple's store makes a zillion dollars without offering trials.

So has RIM finally released their solution to the Try and Buy problem with sending users the incorrect version?


Or has this 5 month old thread been bumped to remind RIM of the issues?
