CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

When trying to add a CalDAV calendar (Google Calendar in this case), the end result is that it is a read-only calendar.

I can not add/edit/delete anything from the calendar and even the edit option for the events doesn't even show up.

Does anyone here have a Google Calendar CalDAV calendar account that is read/write? This includes both the primary calendar and shared calendars (manually added as separate accounts).

NOTE: Please do not suggest ActiveSync. That is not working for some people anymore and is no longer a viable alternative. We need to figure out this CalDAV business at some point.

Figured I'd post in the Z10 forum since people are incorrectly posting OS related issues here anyway, and there's more activity.

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

My understanding is that a CalDav is a pull from the server of your choice where the server is the single source of truth. It's not meant to be a 2-way conversation, but rather a 1-way street from the server (gmail, outlook, mobileMe, etc) to the phone.

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

Actually since originally posting this question, it looks like one of the OS updates along the way has resolved this issue. CalDAV is definitely a two-way protocol, and it works really well now. Thanks for taking the time to reply, though.

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

Hi having trouble getting past 'wrong account details' while syncing Google Calendar to Z10 using CalDAV.

May I just ask whether 2-step authentication (which I use) is a barrier (or issue at all) in this process?

Thanks...

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

Pre-10.1 Maintenance Release OS -- If you use two-factor auth then you should have to create an app-specific password in your Google Account security settings and use that for your BB10.

After 10.1 MR OS - Adding a new Gmail account will log you in via OAuth so app-specific passwords are no longer needed.

That OS is 10.1.0.4633.

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

Superhelpful thank you. As I added Gmail ac before 10.1 does it make sense to delete and add anew?

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

Right thanks done! New 2step pw worked fine. Of course I couldn't see the existing one...

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

raffi, How did you make it work? Which OS version are you on? Is your CalDAV server Google, or something different?

I have v 10.3.2.2474 on my BB Classic.

I'd like to sync my calendar with the CalDAV from my e-mail provider (Fastmail). The Blackberry reads it fine, but I can't find any means of writing to it from the device - unless I go to the web interfqce in the browser, which is rather suboptimal...

Softwareversion 10.3.2.2836
OS Version: 10.3.2.2876

Re: CalDAV Calendars are Read-Only?

@bennypr0fane This issue was from so long ago that I don't really recall, but based on the thread here it sounds like I didn't do anything but update to the latest BB10 release, which was at that time probably OS 10.1.

If you have the latest BB10 on your phone then CalDAV should be working normally...

I did a quick search online for the FastMail documentation and found this tidbit:

"Calendar limitations

When accessing your calendar from your device, you can't (yet!) automatically add incoming emailed invitations to your calendar, automatically update events if the organizer emails an update, or automatically update your own events when RSVPs are given. You'll need the FastMail web interface or FastMail app to perform these updates."

From this link: https://www.fastmail.com/help/clients/applist.html

However, that doesn't explain why you can't simply edit the calendar itself (not automatically). So I clicked on the BlackBerry specific documentation and found that the instructions are pretty detailed and maybe it will help make it work. Check it out here and scroll to the Calendar section: https://www.fastmail.com/help/clients/blackberry.html

Let us know how it goes. I've been interested in FastMail as an alternative to Google Apps for Business. I know it might be a bit off-topic, but how is it? Is the spam filtering as good as Gmail?
