Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

I have many duplicate entries in my calendar and my contacts.  Deleting each one on my Z10 is very time consuming.  Is there a way to do this more efficiently, such as viewing the calendar and the contacts as a file on my computer, where editing would be much easier?

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

How are you getting your calendar and contacts on the Z10?

syncing from Outlook on the PC?

syncing from an email account?

Open your Contacts app.

Tap the bottom right Tab which should say "ALL".

What other tabs are there? View each, do you see some of the same contacts on different Accounts?

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

The Z10 was set up for me by someone else.  It did not have all the contacts from my old BB, so I connected my old BB and the Z10 to my computer and moved everything from the old BB to the Z10.  The result was that the contacts that had made it through the first time are now on the Z10 twice.  In addition, I apparently copied the calendar a second time, so all my reminders are on the Z10 twice.

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

Ok, that makes sense.

So you do have your contacts and calendar still on your old BlackBerry, or a backup made from the old BlackBerry?

And can you answer the other questions I asked?

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

Thank you for your help.

I still have my old BB with the contacts on it.  I don't sync the contacts with anything on an ongoing basis.

My calendar syncs from Outlook in one of my email accounts.

Is that enough information for you?

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

Ok you can try one thing first, less invasive to see if it clears one set of contacts.

Open your contacts

Swipe down from the top edge > Settings.

Scroll down and turn off each of the various contact accounts.

tap BACK at lower left and now view your contacts.

All that should be left are the "local" contacts. Do you see any, and are they the contacts duplicated?

If so, then close all that and return to your main homescreen.

To clear the local calendar or contact database on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone, complete the following steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top bezel on the home screen, and select Settings.
  2. Select Accounts.
  3. Tap the action menu button (3 vertical dots) on the bottom-right.
  4. Select Clear Local Contacts or Clear Local Calendar.

Now, view your contacts app again. Make sure the ALL TAB is displayed at lower left.

Scroll through and check for duplicates.

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

I have a Blackberry Classic, new, that I am moving to from the BB Torch.  I have the problem of duplicate contacts and calendar entries too.  Your instructions (remove local) removed the duplicate calendar entries, but had no effect on the duplicate contacts.

The two main reasons I have stayed with Blackberry through these tough times is that I can synch with desktop  Outlook (including my notes and tasks) and the keyboard.  It appears we can no longer synch everything with the new OS and Link. in addition, it seams half baked with this duplicates problem.   Why is it that Blackberry cannot gtet this right?  Blackberry Desktop Manager did evrything I needed and I had thought this functionality would remain with the new products.  What a dissapointment.  I guess I'll have to look for a platform that will come closer to meeting my needs.

Is ther any hope that this company will eventually listen tro their customers and fix this?

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

Yes.  If there is a way of removing the duplicates from my contacts (which have now migrated to Outlook as well), I would very much apreciate.  After reading the other posts on this problem, I got the impression that it was not "fixable".  I am now afraid to synch, wondering if 'lll get a third set (or 4th) set of duplicates.

I have a windows 7 proffessional, 64 bit PC running Outlok 2010.  With a BB Classic and BBlink.

Re: Duplicate entries in calendar and contacts

You can use an app from AppWorld to find & delete your duplicate contacts.
Do you think it's the sync through Link which is creating the dupes?
