Heavy Wi-Fi and CPU usage overnight when not in use

I'm using a Z10 with the latest OS update.

I charge my phone in the morning at work and in the evening at home. I prefer not to leave it on the charger overnight. Usually this is fine, it doesn't use more than 10-15% charge overnight.

In the last few days I've noticed the battery life drop from 60% to nearly 0% in the 7hrs I'm asleep. From looking at the Device Monitor it looks like the phone is using the WI-Fi and CPU way more than usual for some reason and draining the battery. Since I use the phone as an alarm this is a problem.

I could simply leave it on the charger overnight but would prefer not to. Also I tried disabling the Wi-Fi before I went to bed and this seems to have solved the problem. I've not downloaded any new apps recently and I'm not using the phone any differently than usual.

Any ideas what might be going on, why it's suddenly doing what its doing?
