S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

I uploaded my SMIME certificate to my Blackberry Z10 but I couldn't decrypt emails sent to me using my public key. I looked around forums and it appears that the S/MIME capability is not something that you can get unless you have Blackberry Entreprise Server installed.

Can anyone confirm this?

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

Hey eramdane,

Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Thanks for the question.

S/MIME capability is only available through a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers.

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

Thanks for the info.

Could you please let me know why Blackberry chose this way to activate S/MIME capabilities? For companies that cannot afford to buy the BES, how can they receive and encrypt emails using BB Z10? iPhones allow users to add certificates to their mail client without any server implementation.

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

Hey Eramdane,

My apologies in the delay in replying.

S/MIME capabilities have been always controlled by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.  You can add your email account via ActiveSync however if you're concerned about security and encryption I would suggest looking at hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server solutions.

Cheers.

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

I am interested in knowing why Blackberry chose a client-type capability like S/MIME to transform it into a server-type capability?

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

Does this apply to de-/encryption of S/MIME message only? Therefore, can I sign (S/MIME) my Mails? How to import a Client Certificate?

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

Hi,

I am really surprised . . .

However, does Blackberry offer hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server solutions for small businesses?

What are the options? as I am concerned about security and encryption with a standalone handset?

Thanks

Re: S/MIME Capabilities in Z10

Exchange online offers hosted Blackberry Server solutions. However, I am still trying to figure out how to activate the S/MIME capabilities. As far as I am concerned, I have never had issues like this with a company when dealing with security.

Duncan_Mac_Leod,

You can't unless you have BES installed on top of Exchange server or Lotus Note.
