Updating to latest software

Newbie here to Blackberry and the Z10 is my first smartphone so far really impressed Just a quick question I'm with 3 network in UK I checked for software update and have 10.2.0.424 checked for updates and it says I am up to date Found out my network provider is not carrying the latest update yet My question is can I update it using my windows PC or If I borrowed my sons 02 (network provider) SIM which carries the update - then update the phone - and replace with my SIM would this work ...or do I have to wait? Thanks in advance Paul

Re: Updating to latest software

Popping your son's SIM card in should work because that's what identifies your phone to the network. It would be showing a phone without the latest OS (yours) to the network and would then offer the update to you. That would be the easiest way of doing it.

If ever that option is not available to you, you can load an OS update from any carrier worldwide. Details on how to do so can be found in these forums as well as some tutorials on Crackberry.

I hope that helps you.  Smiley Happy

Re: Updating to latest software

If the other SIM card doesn't prompt an OS upgrade to 10.2.1.1925 (10.2.1.537) (and it should) , you can also upgrade manually with a PC. Not difficult at all.

Re: Updating to latest software

Thanks for the replies I'll be seeing my son this week so will try the SIM method If I had followed the reviews I probably wouldn't have purchased a Blackberry but the Z10 is so good I think they are underrated and hey I've never been one to follow the crowd :-)

Re: Updating to latest software

Tried updating by using the SIM method and using Blackberry Link via my windows PC both said I had the latest software - 10.2.0.424 - is this the latest software or am I doing something wrong?

Re: Updating to latest software

I meant to add to the above 'didn't update using my SIM' as said before I'm seeing my son tomorrow his SIM is on a network that does provide the update - if I update the phone using his SIM will it still work OK on my network even though they don't provide the update?

Re: Updating to latest software

My son visited today - swapped his SIM card with mine and instantly ready for update 10.2.1.537 Thanks for all the replies - really can't get my head round why updates are carrier critical - been around \computers for 30 years and you can still update say a graphics driver from ATI even if the PC manufacturers website doesn't carry it

Well...that pretty much can be applied in this case too. You don`t have to wait for your carrier to release the update. You can do it by downloading the leaks.
