Why do i need data plan or WIFI to complete set up my phone?

Sorry but BB sucks! 


Anytime I wipe my phone or if it's new phone, i need SIM card with data plan or valid WIFI connection in order to setup and use my phone! Why? Is it that difficult to make the phone usable with only a SIM card? Need data plan to make it SMART phone? bull**bleep**

Hello tamdhn,

It will need to check for updates as well as to see if the set was blacklisted (stolen etc) or not.

But the key is to check for updates.

Agreed, it needs a connection to make that setup, verify the BBID, etc., and if no SIM card, not data, and no WiFi is present, it's like cursing the car in which you've run out of gas...
