Z 10 seems not to be working at all just keeps "checking for updates" for a couple of hours now??

Hi, I am NEW to BB and am trying to set up a new BB Z10.  I have connected to the wifi, and have created (or trying to set up) a new Black Berry ID, got as far as the mobile "checking for updates" but that has been the same for the past 3 hours, with the little icon spinning.  I have rebooted, I have taken the battery out, and every time I put the battery back in, or restart this mobile it keeps going back to the same "checking for updates" window!??  Can anyone help me please???

Who is your wireless network provider? Do you currently have a data enabled SIM card inserted into your BlackBerry Z10?
