Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this. It seems like a bug. If you use the camera to take photo's in darker environments (dim lighting) the phones processing on the images causes white spots to appear in the picture that aren't really there. I've linked photo's to better explain.

Blackberry know about this?

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

Hello and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with photos.

What software version does your Blackberry Z10 have installed?

In the Camera settings what is your Aspect Ratio? Scene mode?

Are you in a dusty area when taking these photos? Do the white specks appear on all photos taken?

Can you provide a few more pics taken with the flash where the white specks appear?

Thanks!

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

Software version 10.0.10.82

Aspect Ratio 16:9

Scene Mode Auto

I don't think it's dust. The camera seems to be picking up reflection off tiny metal filings, reminds me of those deep sea camera's that film sucken ships. See the links to the video's I shot at the same time. You can see that the dots aren't moving (hence the assumption that it's not dust) Also in the photo the white spots aren't all over the photo, only in the darker areas (another reason I assume it's not dust - dust would have been all over the photo)

Video with Flash On - Here

There is also an issue I am experiencing with Blackberry App world at random, a message shows up:

"There is an issue with Blackberry World. Blackberry World must now close."

Should I start a new thread on this with photo's?

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

It would seem the flash is reflecting off the surface of the metal filings which appear to be shiny and the image is capturing this shine as a white dot.

If you were to take a photo/video of a surface which is non-reflective, do you still see these white dots?

As for your BlackBerry World issue, are you using WiFi or your mobile data services when you get this error?

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

No, the camera works as expected on non-reflective surfaces. I just thought it was abnormal because I haven't experienced this with other cameras. Maybe something in the way the sensor reads the reflections?

The Blackberry World issue occurs regardless of the data connection method. It happens at random. I know it's not a handset specific issue. There are 3 Z10 handsets in my family and they all have this problem.

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

Perhaps the flash is more powerful on the BlackBerry Z10 which is why the reflective metal shavings appear.

As for your BlackBerry World issue, check out KB34132 and let me know if it helps.

Thanks!

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps the flash is too powerful. I don't know if this will cause problems with close up shots of people at night when they're wearing jewelry with shiny metallic surfaces. Unfortunately this error isn't covered in the KB. App world does open, it just closes at random after a few seconds with the message I mentioned. It's not handset specific, both my brother and dad are experiencing this problem with their Z10's

Re: Z10 Camera Flash anomaly

Are you using Wi-Fi when this error appears or your data plan?

Have you removed the battery to reboot?
