If you have wifi on, it uses it as a priority when data is used and not your over air data. close apps that are always refreshing as well, weather apps, facebook, twitter etc. these apps constantly check for updates and changing information using data.

IN your Settings (swipe down from the top bezel on the homescreen) > Network Connections> Mobile Network > your carrier > you can turn off data services and still retain WiFi data transmission.
However, as stated above, if WiFi is connected, it will always be the preferred data pipe even if the mobile network data is ON.

I'm having the same issues with my data usage.
Contacted O2 and was told to switch off firstly my mobile network, which was pointless, and then tried switching off the data.
Seems that even though I am connected to wifi, my usage is still be drained.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
