Seeing how it's been a month since you answered, how are we doing on this? I have this issue too, many people do, the fix provided was only temporary, or didn't work long term, as was reported. It's happening more and more, and my SMS have been unusable for the last 36 hours.
This is unacceptable, as the original poster pointed out.

No. I'd had this issue before rogers had their problems.
It seems that the phone stops being able to process or index an SMS thread, for some reason. As the OP said, wiping and restarting helped, but only for a little while. Eventually the thread grew again and started freezing. He said it was around the 200 texts range, which is not all that long. It makes it impossible to have any kind of history in the SMS.
And wiping and restarting is not an option, with or without restoring the backup, as the issue comes back.
I've been stuck on this with a few official releases a while back, as well as the maintenance release (10.1MR) and now a leak. Nothing seems to fix it.
It's like that one thread freezes the SMS part of the phone, while it tries to process it for some reason. Opening the thread won't show any messages, and trying to open any other thread will show the header for the 1st thread (the one that's frozen), and not any messages.
Coming back to the original thread and letting the phone stand for some time (I've had to wait about an hour) will sometimes fix the problem, as if the phone can finally catch up.
I'd love to hear more from Blackberry about this... My phone is still frozen as I'm typing this.

It didn't work, not that I thought it would, but stranger things have happened.
I appreciate the suggestion though.
Before I tried that, it had started working again, then I lost it after a few hours.
I'll try to remove FB again, as it seemed a bit better before reinstalling. But it could have been a coincidence.
Does anyone know where the Blackberry people are??
Anyways, thanks for your help everyone.
