Missing Text Msgs/Can't connect my phone to Link via USB cable



So....Since I updated my phone to the new version of Blackberry I can no longer see my text messages under the text message filter page in the HUB.  They continue to exist when I select Hub as the view, but when I try to filter it down to just text messages.....nothing.  I have checked my settings in the "Hub Management" and I have it selected for both.


I have tried to re-start my phone several times, with no success.


Then I thought I should just perform a wipe and start again.  Howerver, I cannot connect my phone via USB cable to my Windows 8.1.  (I am currently conneted via WiFI)  But of course I can't perform a backup or re-install without a cable connection.
