notification text

I have just purchased a new z30 and it doesn't notify me I have a text message. I have Been to Telus and they re-booted. Works for 1 text and then nothing. I called support at Telus and again same works when we restart but only first text and they won't delete after. They are telling me it has to do with the last software update?
