volume control buttons

Why is it that the volume control buttons on my blackberry don't work at various times (most of the time!).  Like if I'm listening to something with earphones in, and want to turn up the volume, they don't work at all.  Or if Im on a call and want to turn up/down the volume, either speakerphone or not, they don't work.  Instead I have to go through all the pains of swiping and opening up the settings and changing the volume there.  What a pain!!

Try resetting your phone to see if that works. Push and hold both volume buttons simultaneously for 20 seconds. Don't let go until you see the BlackBerry logo despite what appears on the screen before that. Once your phone has rebooted, try your  volume buttons again.

Yep, that works.  However, i've done this before by shutting down and then it works for a while, but then stops again.  So strange!

I see the same issue with a new Z30.  Upon reboot or reset, volume control works.  wait a few minutes and the side buttons no longer function.
