I keep getting the following message: "There was a connection problem. Blackberry world must close."
I would be grateful for a solution, especially since I am unable to upgrade any apps.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (step 1 should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
1) Register HRT
3) Clear BBWorld Cache
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

I have exactly the same problem, solution provided below didn't work, I contacted provider and they claim that everything is OK on their side.
Can you clarify please? "didn't work"...does that mean the steps did not work as described? Or that they worked as described, but did not change the symptoms you are experiencing.
In both cases though, you most likely need to continue with formal support. Both cases indicate a problem between your device and your carriers/BBs network infrastructure. No one here has any access to that to determine why that is the case. Only your carrier can look at their network -- which they did, and found nothing. Given that, they should not have just let it go at that...rather, they should have escalated to BlackBerry (formally, which only they can do) for enhanced support.
