BlackBerry Phone application

On version 4.3 and above (and perhaps below) I've noticed that if you type in a string of alpha characters into the native phone input and press the SEND key, the action appears to be ignored (nothing happens). However when creating an instance of PhoneArguments, if I pass in a string of alpha characters as the dialStringArg then those characters are somehow converted into numbers and this number is dialed. I was just wondering why there is an inconsistency between performing the action through the API and performing the action in the UI.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Re: BlackBerry Phone application

The PhoneArguments are converting the text entries to the appropriate number.  You can do the same thing in the Phone application by holding down the ALT key when you type a letter (letter is converted to the correct number tone).
