I'm having a problem with the BlackBerryMapsDemo sample bundled with the jdk.
Basically the application will run but I'm getting a network error whenI try and view the map.
I'm using JDK 18.104.22.168, I have the MDS running. I can browse internal sites on our intranet.
In the debug window I can see that the application is calling the following url,http://maps.blackberry.com/map2/;deviceside=true (uid=null, mdsUID=null), when trying to render the map screen.
Thats when the network error appears ("A network error was encountered. Check your server settings") on the blackberry screen. Also, I see no activity in the MDS Simulator.
I understand that when deviceside=true is specified that direct TCP is used.
My APN settings in the simulator are set to, APN=net.rim.gprs and user name and password is blank.
I suppose I have two questions.
1. How do I get this working in the simulator environment using directTCP?
2. Is it possible to use deviceside=false so Blackberry Maps uses the MDS instead?

I could do with some pointers here. please let me know if I haven't provided enough information.
I'd like to get the Maps Demo working before I start working on my application.
Thanks in advance..

You mention that you are able to access sites on your Intranet. Are you able to browse to sites in the Internet? If not, do you have a proxy server in your environment? If so, please see this link.

I am experiencing the same problem.
I have a system proxy and have configured it correctly in rimpublic.property. I was able to go on google.com via Blackberry Browser. But somehow when I launch Blackberry Maps or the MapDemo, it always say "Network Error", and the map shows "No Data Available".
Any idea how to fix this? Any insights will be greatly appreciated!!
