Compiled application size is larger in BlackBerry JDE 4.3.0 or later

This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) 4.3.0 or later

BlackBerry JDE uses the rapc.exe tool to compile applications into .cod files. The compiled application size depends on how the rapc.exe tool compiles the application.

In an effort to make the .cod files as small as possible, the rapc tool was designed to use a fixup representation that was very compact. As a result, BlackBerry JDE versions earlier than 4.3.0 generate smaller .cod files.

It was discovered that the fixup representations in the rapc tool were too aggressive. In BlackBerry JDE 4.3.0 and later, the rapc tool was redesigned to use a fixup representation that is more conservative but larger in size. Consequently, the generated .cod files are also larger.

The increased size of .cod files in BlackBerry JDE 4.3.0 or later is a result of an improved rapc tool and is not considered an issue.
