DeviceCapability.isVirtualKeyboardAvailable() is always false?

is this true, because its true in my Torch simulator when ever the virtual keyboard pop's up when the slider is closed. Perhaps i understand the concept incorrectly, but I'm assuming the grey keyboard that pop's up when you touch an input text field is the "virtual keyboard"? I have no idea how to make it go away if the user is done typing other than opening up the slider which i think its really inappropriate as the only method of clearing the keyboard. You can just press the back key in Android and it goes away. I would like to overwrite the onKey  function to intercept the back press, but sadly the isVirtualKeyboardAvailable() return false when the keyboard is there and when the keyboard is not there. Is this is a bug?
