I've written an app (on JDE6.0 against the 9800 Torch simulator). I've installed it on the device. It runs fine until:
- I put my app in the background
- I power the device off
- I power the device back up
At this point I get App error 603 and the only option is to reset.
I can't see a list of app error codes anywhere and the only refence I can find on the net says error 603 means I've installed an app for the wrong version of the OS which can't be true as I've only built it for 6.0.

Have you read this KB article published just a couple days ago?
KB23951App Error 603 is displayed on the BlackBerry smartphone

Upon further investigation, the power off was coincidental - the 603 actually happens after a few seconds if the app is just put to the background.

Upon still further investigation, it seems the device just throws this error at some random time after my app has started. My app ran fine in the simulator but when I run it on the device the device throws this 603 at some random time and the entire device just hangs, requiring a complete device reset.
I've tried an upgarde but there is no upgrade. I've deleted all apps but that didn't help.

It seems 603 is caused by the event stack overflowing or something similar. This may be due to your listener not returning quickly enough or your app hitting deadlock while it has the event lock or something like that.
