Does every pushed connection to the Blackberry need to go through the BES?

Hi,

This is a general question for any expert to answer.

I have a push registered midlet which accepts streaming connection on a given port, registered as socket://:1234

The intend is for a device browser to be able to connect to this application using http://localhost:1234 (or 127.0.0.1).

This works perfectly fine with other J2ME supported mobile devices like Symbian. Is this allowed on Blackberry? Or does every push connection has to go through the Blackberry Enterprise Server?

Looks like I am not allowed to register a push midlet without activation with the BES (ESS in case of BB simulator). Why is this restriction?

Thanks,

Debashis

Re: Does every pushed connection to the Blackberry need to go through the BES?

You could try adding ";deviceside=true" to your URLs

This explicitly demands the device to use a direct connection instead of the connecting from the BES
