I'm trying to open a socket connection on my BB 8820 AT&T (OS 4.5) using all the familiar methods
and i noticed that when the device is connected to "edge" it fails but when its connected to "EDGE"
i have no problem doing so.
My question is, is there a problem to open socket or use the device Data plan when the device is connected to "edge"
and not "EDGE"?

capital letters indicate that your device has established a tunnel to the BES.

I think GPRS, EDGE, and 3G in capital letters mean that the device is connected to the RIM network infrastructure (BES or BIS) via the cellular interface.

I've read many posts on the internet that people complained when the icon is "edge" some of the data services didn't work on their BB, that's why i suspect it prevents from my application from opening Socket and connecting the internet.
I have to add that it happens randomly and sometimes i succeed to make the connection.
