GPS Altitude Accuracy Problems

I have recently begun developing applications for my blackberry curve 8330.

I am seeing some strange behavior when i have an altitude returned to me from the coordinates.getAltitude()

First, I looked up what the altitude of my position in the real world, and it's basically around 700 feet.

I am not getting negative values like others have seen on this forum, but when I convert the return of the getAltitude to feet, I commonly get results in the 500s and 600s.  Additionally, I see some big jumps - 10, 20, 25 feet at a time when I'm not moving.

I've tried this with both autonomous and assisted modes, making sure I have setAltitudeRequired set to true.

If you're wondering why I need the accuracy - I'm hoping to make a route tracker that will pick up changes in altitude and will display the steepness of the grade in realtime.

Re: GPS Altitude Accuracy Problems

I'm in Austin, TX, and I am legitimately 550 feet above see level sitting in my office. Are you sure this is not also the case for you?

Also, your 10,20,30 foot variation is 2-10 meters, well within the limits of accuracy of the GPS system.
