GPS Location - AFLT/Cellsite

Hello Everybody,

I have to implement GPS functionality in my application. I have implemented a location listener with Criteria as

criteria.setCostAllowed(false);
criteria.setHorizontalAccuracy(50);
criteria.setVerticalAccuracy(50);

LocationProvider locProvider = LocationProvider.getInstance(criteria);

if (locProvider == null)
{
criteria.setHorizontalAccuracy(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT);
criteria.setVerticalAccuracy(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT);
criteria.setCostAllowed(true);
criteria.setPreferredPowerConsumption(Criteria.POWER_USAGE_LOW);

.....

The idea is to look for autonomous mode and if GPS is not available, opt for cellsite.

I have now a couple of question

1) I read on some post that cellsite is only for CDMA carriers, is that true? If yes, then what do we fallback to in case of GSM carriers?

2) Is AFLT the way ahead?

I have read KB articles

DB-00671, DB-00615,

DB-00461

Thoughts?

Re: GPS Location - AFLT/Cellsite

Sorry to point you at more documentation, but you should read the GPS document that comes with the level of JDE you are planning to support.

Here is the 4.3 one:

http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/1125/GPS%20and%20BlackBerry%20Maps%20Developme...

You should also review the two GPS videos you will find here.

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/resources/videolibrary.jsp#tab_ddetail_subtab_jde

Having been through these, you will find it becoming a lot clearer.
